ok so me and my husband were talking to his mum again about why we are no longer going to meetings and got into another pointless discussion where she feels he needs to talk to an elder about his issue's blah, blah, blah... round and round it went...... the thing i wanted to ask was if anybody had heard that there wont be any gb after these one's die??

this is something she mentioned today and we have never heard of this ever.

so it means no more will be appointed and they will just die off!

It's a smorgasbord of religious delights (or food poisoning) out there isn't it.

You take your pick.

I quite like the Latter Day Saints theology and their ideas about the after-life.

Basically, we are all angels with no knowledge of our prior heavenly existence who have come down to earth to learn moral right from wrong. Then we return to heaven and live eternally there, forever with our family and loved ones, and only the most evil and incorrigible will miss out on that.

The problem of evil explained, and universal salvation for everyone except the most evil - perfect!

hi folks,.

the rank and file is now in a strange situation.. it is clear that the jw leadership is in for a huge change.

the type / anti type change makes clear that they make a u-turn.. it's clear that with this changes the current doctrine are temporary.

The GB can do whatever they want with ANY (and I mean ANY) doctrine/creed/policy whatsoever and the Watchtower organisation would still survive, provided they don't mess with their following cardinal, fundamental doctrines:

NO trinity, NO immortal soul, NO hellfire, heavenly and earth resurrections.

These four doctrines are the real concept holding them captive. The rest is so much stuff around the edges that can be discarded with little collateral damage.

It may be that we are hearing hints of a desire on the part of some GB members to discard all the debateable, weird stuff around the edges that is proving a stumbling block and just get back to the basics.

reading coc the above line came into view , and it struck me: here is the mindset in bethel.

power is invested in them, and they will change it, under the guise of ruling for christ.. i am, or was, primarily interested in doctrine, and these changes, (capitals mine) that adams, the head of the writing department, referred to during the research for the 'aid" book, was on governance in the congregation,.

have you noticed just how much the org is now appealing to "emotions" rather than facts?.

we used to be told that worshiping god has an element of emotion involved of course, but that the primary motivation should be logical truth.

now though, they seem to be highlighting the "fluff" rather than the substance!.

Since when has any religion ever been based on 'facts'?

All religion is ultimately just the hope of a hereafter, of something beyond this life, of the 'real life' to come.

And the hope of seeing your dead loved ones again.

Is there anything more emotional than that?

Hope springs eternal.
